'gypsy' thread
EFFECT: Performer takes a spool of thread,
unravels about a foot of it, & then breaks it off, putting
the spool down. Performer proceeds to break the thread into 6
or 7 clearly broken & different pieces, then holding one piece
in one hand, the other pieces are rolled up into a ball and 'squashed'
onto the piece from the other hand. When this is unraveled it
is seen to be completely restored to it's original length. VERY
visual, & very clean, pretty easy to do as well.
PREPARATION:
Only practice & you need a spool of cotton thread,
preferably brightly colored. It has to be cotton, otherwise you
will need scissors to cut it. Or you could do a burned & restored
thread.
METHOD:
First, before you approach the spec., unravel about
a foot and 1/2 - 2 foot of thread. Now make a tiny ball of thread
out of the extra thread you have, so you should have a ball of
thread, then a foot of thread (still on the spool). The ball is
tiny enough to fit, unnoticed, into the fat of your thumb &
index finger when they are pressed together. Now there should
be a couple of inches of thread, then a ball (hidden) (all in
your right hand) then a foot of thread & then the spool (in
your left hand).
Now approach the spec. Break your foot of thread from the spool,
& give them the spool to hold. It looks like you are holding
a foot of thread, when really, thanks to the ball you are hiding
between your index finger & thumb (right hand), you have more
like a foot & 1/2.
Break the 1st piece off, now the piece in your right hand looks
like a 5 inch length. Thanks to the hidden ball it is a foot long
(your restored thread). The pieces in your left hand can be broken
as many times as you like, clearly show the thread to be broken.
Now, by rubbing your (LH) thumb & index 2gether, make a ball
of the pieces of thread and 'squash' the 5 inch thread from your
RH onto the ball, at the same time, tucking the ball so it's hidden
between your index & thumb (LH). Now the ball you have been
hiding the whole trick is visible, it looks like the ball you
just made outta the broken thread. It can be unraveled & is
restored. Give it to the spec. as a souvenir.
As far as patter goes you an pretty much say whatever u want,
I'm sure you will anyway. I did hear one about the gypsy ancestors
in the spirit world, who are everlasting & at one with each
other. The thread is an embodiment of them given to you (the performer)
by a gypsy woman, however many places you break it in, the spirits
will always unite & remain as one.
Impromptu rising card
EFFECT:
Another impromptu version of the rising card effect.
PREPARATION:
Take 3 cards and set them aside, (king of clubs, queen
of diamonds and any other card) take a rubber band and cut in
in halve so you have a length of rubber. It should be somewhat
about 4" long. I use face cards for the gimmick. one is a
king of clubs, on this punch a small hole thru his "HAT"
area right in the middle of the 3rd club. pass one end of the
rubber thru this, and fold it down on the back side of the card.
Now staple the rubber to the card. the flat side of the staple
should be on the face.) Little fudging the band on the back side
will stay in place.
The other card I use is the an indifferent card, Prepare it the
same as you did with the king. Now take the queen of diamonds
and glue it to the face of the indifferent card, and your ready
to perform the rising card.
This is impromptu cause you can "sneak in" this gimmick
at any time during your show act.
METHOD:
Have the gimmick with the band at the "TOP"
side, or facing away from you .Have this on the bottom of the
pack. Spread the pack, do a fan , you can even shuffle around
the gimmick leaving it on the bottom if you wish. Have them select
a card from the middle and show it around. While they do this
cut the pack bringing the gimmick to center, and hold a slight
break between the 2 cards of the gimmick. (this helps for the
insertion of the selection) Take their card back and push it into
the pack "losing it" placing it down onto the rubber
band and forcing it and the rubber down into the pack. This will
take a little practice getting the feel and right pressure. Once
the card is all the way down and the top of the pack is flush.
Hold the pack down with your left thumb tightly so the card doesn't
shoot up) do your patter or whatnot , then say" watch"
slowly relax your thumb and the tension of the rubber will slowly
make the selection rise from the middle of the pack.
Once it's risen , take it out and hand it to your spectator, under
this cover cut the gimmick back to the bottom then gamblers cop
it to your pocket as you grab a pen or whatever for your next
effect. Now your clean.
Was there now is here
EFFECT:
Show a spectator the top card of the deck and hand them
the card. Show them the next top card and magically change the
card that is in their hand in two different ways.
PREPARATION:
You will need two of the same cards with the same back
to it. At the top of the deck there should be one of the duplicates
on the top of the deck and below that a random card and below
that the other duplicate card.
METHOD:
Double lift to show the random card and the turn that
back over and give them the top duplicate and tell them to hold
it in their hand like a sandwich. once they have done that then
execute another double lift and show them the other duplicate
(the same as the one in their hand that they do not know about)
but really take off the card that they think they have got. So
you have got the card that they think they have in you hand and
they have one of the duplicates.
There is two ways to end this performance the second more harder
than the first:
1: Rub the card that is in your hand and pretend that it has just
magically changed.
2: This one is slightly harder because it is embarrassing if you
mess it up.
When you show the second duplicate secretly turn the card that
is on top of it (because you are doing a double lift) while the
duplicate is facing flat up so that you are prepared for what
you are about to do one face up card with the other card below
it back to back). With the deck in you left hand, put your left
thumb holding the bottom left corner of the cards and your left
middle finger holding the opposite corner put your right hand
thumb on the bottom right corner and the right middle finger on
the top left hand corner of the cards. Pull down a little with
your left hand and suddenly let go and it will flick and turn
around in your hand like it magically appeared from their hand
to your hand. Because you have turned the two cards over as one
you acn drop the duplicate card back on to the top of the pack
and so it looks like there was only ever one card there.
Cough
Effect:
The spectator's freely chosen card ends up folded in
the magician's mouth.
Method:
1. Start with a full deck of cards.
2. Now shuffle the deck so that everybody knows that the cards
are not rigged in any way.
3. Have a spectator choose a card and memorize it.
4. Now, cut the deck and have them place their card on the top
of
the bottom half.
5. Quickly take the bottom half and place it on top. (This can
be done behind your back as well.)
6. Now you know their card is on the top of the deck and you must
begin folding it. MAKE SURE THAT ALL OF THIS IS DONE BEHIND YOUR
BACK!!!!
7. Fold the card twice and place it four cards down from the top.
8. Then bring out the first card. Ask them "Is this your
card?"(ITYC?) They will say no.
9. Do this until you reach your fourth card.
10. The folded up card should be placed at the back of the fourth
card. Bring it up and sort of place the card horizontal to your
mouth. With your thumb, slide the folded up card in your mouth.
11. Now point to the card you are still holding. Do not speak
or open your mouth because the audience or spectator will notice
the card in your mouth and the trick would be ruined.
12. Reach behind your back and pull out one more card. Again point
but don't speak. After the audience thinks you bombed the trick
begin to cough and pull out their card. They will be dumbfounded.
Tips:
You may want to use an old, crappy deck of cards because after
it is in your mouth it gets wet and tore and as you probably know...
a deck is not good without all 52 cards.
Ambitious Card
EFFECT:
A spectators card keeps jumping from the middle of the
deck to the to the top
METHOD:
Get the spec to choose a card. they can sign or whatever.
put it face down on top of the deck. next you must take the card
off the top but also lift the second card up at the back 1-2cm.
now push the card a bit into the middle and take it out again
show the spec it is still their card. go to push the card in again
put it under the second card. from the front it looks like it
goes in the middle. square up the deck then double lift to show
it on top. replace the cards on top again. take the top one off
and get he spec to take half the deck. place the card in the middle
put the rest on top and the chosen card is on top again. This
is probably the hardest move but looks great. give the spec their
card and cut the deck. place their card in the middle. now flip
it over showing it is still there. turn it face down again and
stick it half off the end of the deck. Turn your hand over showing
the card and then turn your hand back. whilst doing this you need
to have moved the bottom card of the top half of the deck apart
from the rest so you have it held by the ends of your fingers).
now push the specs card flush with the deck and drop the extra
card on top. push the card you just dropped out to the side and
slide it into the other half of the deck(leave it sticking out).
take that half and put it in the middle of the other half and
its on top yet again.(pheew).take the specs card and show it about.
whilst doing this turn the new top card over.(i recomend doing
this against your leg by pushing it off and flipping it).place
the card on top making sure the spec doesnt see the othr card.bend
both cards the take the top one and insert it in th middle.hold
the top half of the deck tight so the other bent card doesnt show.
now drop the top half of the deck, flatterning the bent card and
release the pressure on the top half of the deck causing the card
to pop to the top.
hot shot technique
EFFECT:
A card in the middle of the deck is shot out.
METHOD:
1) Hold the deck in your left hand, like you would do
a Charlier Cut (Pass), but instead of curling your first finger
under the deck, it is resting just like the other fingers on the
right long side of the deck. Now, remove all fingers, except for
the thumb and your first finger. The other fingers are bend in
and do not touch the deck at all. THE DECK'S LEFT LONG SIDE IS
PARALLEL TO YOUR BODY AND CLOSEST TO YOU. Remark: deck is held
flat.
2) Stretch out your left middle finger (the other fingers are
automaticaly stretched when you do this), so that this finger
rests against the left long side of the deck (the same side of
the thumb).
3) Here is the tricky part: with your left thumb (laying at the
left upper corner of the deck), you bevel the upper half of the
deck up and to the left (the upper half thus supported by the
thumb and the tip of your first finger), in a clockwise arc. Keep
rotating the upper half (the lower half of the deck is held between
the other side of your first finger and your middle finger) UNTIL
BOTH HALVES ARE PARALLEL WITH EACH OTHER (they are separted by
the tip of your first finger).
4) Now, move the upper half (= here the left half) UNDERNEATH
the right half; the upper half still held between the thumb and
the first finger. At the same time, you curl in the middle and
ring finger so that the right half is held between those fingers
and the first finger.
5) At the moment both halves ALMOST are re-assembled to a full
deck, you stretch out your left first finger (which was naturaly
bend to support the lower half until now, remember), moving the
bottom card of the now-top-half of the deck IN A CLOCKWISE ARC
(thus: up and to the right) with it.
6) At this point, the single card should be sticking at right
angles out of the deck, just like a gun.
7) Stretch your left middle finger and rest the tip of it against
the inner corner of the single card (the corner which is closest
to you). The first finger doesn't contact the card anymore now.
8) Quickly, move your stretched middle finger to you, causing
the card to bend lightly. At the moment the card is clearing the
deck, you bend the tip of the middle finger very fast inwards:
the card is clearing your finger and swivles (at a high speed)
out of the deck, in your waiting right hand.
Card thru Window
EFFECT:
Performer has a spec. pick a card, shuffled back into
the deck, & the deck is then launched at a nerby window. The
selected card is stuck to the other side of the glass.
PREPARATION:
If you don't already know, you need 2 of the same card
(say 3, for example). The 3 is stuck to the other side of a window
using SALIVA. Trust me, this is invisible & works, the less
of it the better, just make sure it's secure before you try this
trick on someone. Knowledge of any force.
METHOD:
Force the 3 on our spec. Have her/him show the card off,
but don't let u see. At this point you'd usually have them shuffle
the deck, then u launch the deck at a window & it's done,
just like Blaine did. There is one problem. What if the spec.
sees their card lying on the pavement outside the window, while
their card is apparently on the other side of the glass? Sort
of blows it a bit, huh. 2 overcome this do the following: don't
let the spec. mix their card back in, instead take their card
from them (don't look at it, u don't need 2) & do a Marlo-tilt
move to control the card to 2nd place. Now the spec. believes
their card is lost in the middle. Don't do any fake shuffling
as they will now suspect u are controlling their card back 2 the
top or something, the spec. ain't stupid. It's better to leave
it at the tilt, the card is most definitely (not) in the middle,
& u have no clue what it is (apparently). Then tell them u'll
find it behind your back. Now all u do is BS a little, put the
2nd card in your back pocket, & bring the deck back 4 some
wrong predictions. "Is this your card? How about this one?
This card?" (obviously u r wrong) Then just say 'fuck it'
& throw the cards, casually, at the window. Then the only
3 around is thru' the glass. The card that could have given u
away is safely tucked into your back pocket.
Signed Card in Bottle
EFFECT:
A card is chosen signed, you walk across the street and
find a signed card in a bottle
PREPARATION:
a freind or something alike
METHOD:first the way blaine did it was to show them a different
trick which had them sign a card and then pretend it went wrong.
now when i do it i palm the signed card and then pass it to a
freind who takes the card and puts in in a bottle or whatever
then you need to show another trick (i use a coin trick) now claim
you have another card trick to show, have a dobule of the signed
card ready. force it to them and have them sign it in the same
way now put it to the top of the deck and take them to where ever
the card in the bottle is and throw the deck at the bottle and
tell them to look, whilst they do this slip the other card to
your pocket.
Check Your Pocket
EFFECT:
You ask a on-looker to take a card. it is then returned
to the deck and the deck is then placed directly into the box.
then ask the spectator to check his pocket and there is the chosen
card.
PREPARATION:
if you can pick pockets this is easy. the main thing
about picking pockets is misdirection (along with light fingers).
but if you cant pick pockets, all you have to do is misdirect
the spectators attention and place a pre chosen card in a pocket
(jacket pockets are the easiest with rear pants pockets being
the most difficult).
METHOD:once you have the card placed in their pocket it's all
down hill. force the card (any force does the job, and it's a
duplicate, of course)then once it is replaced in the deck put
them right in the box and into your pocket. from here you can
do whatever you like, if it's a pretty girl i usually hold their
hand and tell them i'm sending the card to them mentally. tell
them to check the pocket and you baffled the hell out of them.
Torn and Restored Signed Card
EFFECT:
A card is chosen from the deck, signed, then replaced
in the deck. This card jumps to the top of the deck, and is then
is VISIBLY ripped up and scrunched into a small square. With a
little rubbing, the chosen card is then found restored on the
top of the deck.
PROPS:
A duplicate card, preferably a two of any suit.
PREPARATION:
Basically, you need to know how your spectator writes
their name, because you need to copy it. It does not have to be
exact, but it must be able to convince them well enough when the
card is flashed at them.
There are two possible ways in which you may have to do this:-
1) If you know their name before hand, then great; you already
have a head start. Take the duplicate two and write their name
in capitals between the two suit symbols with the card portrait
way up (this is the most likely way they will sign the card when
presented with it).
2) If you don't know their name, then you need to perform another
trick on your spectator in which they need to sign the/a card.
An accomplice can then look and copy their name onto the force
card and hand it to you in between tricks.
Once you have your signed force card, place it on top of the pack,
and then place the unsigned duplicate card on top of the signed
card. You are ready to perform.
METHOD:
Hold the cards in your left hand and riffle them, asking the sectator
to say stop whenever they wish. This done, execute the backslip
(you should all know what that is) and let them take their "freely
chosen" card. Replace the top half of the deck, keeping the
signed duplicate card on top. Tell them to place their card on
the deck face up and write their name on it in capitals. (It is
at this point that you can contrive to have the card signed portrait
way up by holding the deck that way and pointing to the space
between the suit symbols) You give them back their card and tell
them to replace it in the deck. What you do here is pretend to
cut off half the deck. Hold the pack as deep into your left hand
as you can, and then remove the top card with the four fingers
and thumb of the right hand. Move the right hand away quickly
to the right, keeping the card covered by the hand so the spectator
cannot see that it is only one card. Offer them the rest of the
deck and tell them to put their card into the supposed cut. Bring
back your right hand and, when it is level with the rest of the
pack, drop the single card back on top, and with the same movement
pick up half the pack and riffle it back onto the deck. This creates
the illusion that you have replaced half a pack of cards on top
of the chosen one, when in reality, you have, from the top of
the deck downwards, the card you signed and the card the spectator
signed.
Perform the double lift, showing that their card has jumped to
the top of the deck. While they react, turn both cards over again
and take off just the top card (the one you forged). Hold it face
down and state that you are going to rip it up. As you say this,
flash them the face of the card a few times; they will never notice
that it's not their actual card. Tear the card across the name
and turn it face up, tearing it in half, and half again. Fold
it into a square and begin to rub it on the top of the deck. Give
the deck to the spectator, fold the card tighter and hold it in
your right hand. Pretend to transfer it to you left with a little
throw, but actually keep it in your right hand. Hold your left
hand in a fist and rub it against the deck as you gently lower
your right hand and deposit the torn card in your pocket. Slowly
open your left hand over the deck, and show that the card has
vanished. When your spectator reacts, point to the top of the
deck and tell them to look at the top card. They turn it over
to find their signed card staring, "restored", right
back at them.
Two Card Monte
EFFECT:
The performer shows a red face card (DB uses QD)and places it
in specs hand. Asks if the spectator has ever heard of the Three
Card Monte, in which the loser is told to "find the red card,"
of course he is always wrong. Spec is told this game is based
on that, but instead using only two cards. The performer shows
a red face card (QD) and places it above the QH. The spec is told
to keep track of the suits. The performer slowly removes the bottom
card and shows it to spec, proving that he indeed switched it.
He then makes a quick movement, asking the spec if he would be
impressed if he had switched the cards so quickly. "Yes,"
is usually the answer. The spec is told to turn the cards over.
They have changed to two red faces (AC AS).
PREPARATION:
Have a four card stack on top of the deck. DB uses Queen Ace Queen
Ace
METHOD: Turn over top card and show QD. Put into specs closed
fingers. DL and show QH. Do slow switch, slipping top card to
bottom with dealing hand. Show QD. Do a top change. Reveal.
The Riffle Force
EFFECT:
You riffle through the deck and ask the spectator to
look at a card and remember just one as you riffle through. You
then name there card.
PREPARATION:
A deck with one short card in it.
METHOD:
All you have to do is put a short card in front of another
(or you could clip the corner of one card and riffle down that
corner) and remeber that card. Riffle it and name the card but
do this quickly.
Voodoo Ashes
EFFECT:
The magician puts some cigarette ashes on his hand and tells a
spectator to hold his hands in fists. The Magician opens his hands...the
ashes are gone. Where are they? In the spectator's hands.
PREPARATION:
Put some ash on your middle finger.
METHOD:
After putting the ash on your middle finger, tell the spectator
to put his hands up face down. "No," you say, "Higher."
Lift his hands to where you want them, making sure to touch your
middle finger to their palm. When you close your fist later, a
simple grinding motion gets rid of the ash.
Fly Resurrection
EFFECT:
You take a "dead" fly out of a matchbx, and give it
to hopefully a willing spectator to examine and make sure it is
dead by moving it about, after no response from the fly you tell
them to cup both there hands around the fly and think of nature
and life after a while the fly the fly comes back to life.
PREPARATION:
Catch a bluebottle type fly put it into a matchbob and close it
up place in the freezer for 10 to 15 minutes and take out(while
in there the fly goes into hibernation due to the extreme cold
the spectators hands warm up the fly and it comes back to life(but
leave after taking out of freezer for about ten minutes or the
spectator will be holding the fly for a long ass time.)
METHOD:
Just make up your patter the method is described in the Routine
part of this thing.
Psychokenetic Time
EFFECT:
A watch is borrowed the magcian does not carry anything!.
After showing the watch to those nearby who notice the current
time, you place the watch face down in the spectatorÃ’Æ
à ¢Ò¢ââ
¬Å¡Ã ¬Ò¢ââ
¬Å¾Ã ¢s hand. His hand is
closed over the watch. The magcian doesn not touch the watch again.
The magcian then asks the spectator to name a number and then
to concentrate on that number and the watch. He opens his hand,
turns over the watch and sees that the hands of the watch have
moved that many minutes! This trick does not require any gimmcks.
PREPARATION:
Someone wearing an analogue watch (a watch with an long stem that's
easy to manipulate quickly. ie: SEIKO watches)
You need to wear a watch of your own with the wrong time.
METHOD:
Ask your victim for his watch with an excuse like, "I think
my time is wrong can I see yours for a second?." Borrow the
watch for a minute and examine it look at it, state what time
it has, and say, "is this the right time, I need to know."
Now glance at the time on YOUR watch, and draw attention to it
by setting its time. While they looking at you, set the time on
your watch. Your other hand is moving their stem so THEIR time
moved forward 25 mins. Now have them sandwich their watchbetween
their hands, and ask them to pick a number from 10 thru 30. Most
people will pick 25 if they pick 20, they won't notice it's off
by five mins when you reveal that the hands of their watch have
moved forward in time.... if they picksomething below that number,
tell them to make it harder, and pick a higher number. it gets
them everytime... just remember to givea great patter when doing
this trick.
Better Phsycokinetic Time
EFFECT:
You place your hand over someones watch while they are
wearing it, a few seconds later, the watch has moved forward.(or
back)
PREPARATION:
yo will need to make or purchase a long rotating tube
to fix to the back of your arm, when you operate the motor, the
tube will rotate, so turning the knob on the watch.
METHOD:
place the tube over the watch while you have your hand
over the watch, a slight jerk backwards will pull the button out
to the correct position, operating the motor at this time will
cause the watch to move forward (or backwards), with practice,
these movements can be discrete and very quick.
Watch Steal
Effect:
Magician distracts spectator for a moment with one trick
when the trick seems to fail the magician apologizes and is then
shows the spectator their watch.
Secret:
Seek a subject with a watch that has a leather band and which
uses a "hook and eye".
Place two cards in the spectators hands and grab the wrists of
both hands fairly tight placing the face of the watch in your
palm.
Now tell the spectator to concentrate on the cards begin using
your hands to move his arms.
T ell the spectator that you will make the cards change in his
hands or some other patter to distract them.
(Removing the watch) Use your thumb to slide the band through
the loop then bring their arms together grasping the other end
of the strap with your other thumb and pull it free of the hook.
Then palm the face and drop your arms to your sides. Say the trick
did not work and then produce their watch and say something cute.
To perform the trick like David Blaine requires hours of practice,
try to practice on many different types of watch as possible.
When practicing this trick try using on your own arm, put the
watch on your right-hand and try to remove the watch with your
left-hand. Once you can remove the watch without any problems
and as smoothly as possible you are ready to perform the trick.
Tearing a Deck in Half (5 methods)
METHOD:
Tearing The Pack
VARIOUS methods of preparing the pack in order to duplicate the
real feat.
No. 1. Clip each card slightly, with a pair of scissors, on both
sides in the middle.
No. 2. Have a printer impress the middle of each card with a perforating
rule using no ink. If this is not available score each card across
the middle with a penknife.
No. 3. Spread the cards in a moderately hot oven and let them
bake for a couple of hours.
No. 4. Soak the cards and split them. Wash the glue off the surfaces
and let the backs and fronts dry. Stack them together and put
them under pressure to dry out thoroughly.
No. 5. Actually tear the cards almost for half their width, making
the tears correspond by doing about a quarter of the pack at a
time. Replace the pack in its case and replace the tax stamp.
The half-packs can be prepared for being torn in half in exactly
the same way.
A good idea is to have the face card an AD or 2D and on it have
stamped your name and the date the feat was performed. Snap a
rubber band around and toss the quarter packs to the spectators.
To tear an unprepared pack in half grip one end tightly between
the four fingers and the base of the thumb, the thumb lying over
the back, while the other end is gripped with the other hand placed
across around the side of the pack. The feat can be made somewhat
easier by slightly spreading the cards so that the tear starts
in a few cards only.
Number Guess
by Brandon Thomas
EFFECT:
I use this number guess very often. My version of this works for
me 100% of the time, unless the spectator doesn't follow the directions.
I came up with some simple patter. Use this as the basis, but
don't quote it word for word.
Steps:
1. "Pick a two (I usually put up two fingers to stress the
fact) digit number between 1 and 50. BOTH (stress that) digits
must be odd and they can't be the same number.(pause)And remember
1 isn't an odd number" Because they are thinking about the
directions you have given them most people will not argue that
1 is an odd number. But if someone does just tell them that "since
nothing goes into 1 but 1 its in its own class" Or come up
with something else creative to make them doubt themselves.
*2. At that point most people will continue on with the trick.
But if someone continues to argue with you over one being an odd
number tell them that you are sure its not odd, but not to use
it anyway. Because of the directions you gave them one being an
odd number will not register to most people anyway and you won't
even have to explain. That might sound a little shady, but I doubt
you will even have to use this step often.
2. Pause for a BRIEF moment while they begin to think
and say, "Like...35..." This works good for two reasons,
1)If they have already picked a number and it was 35 they will
probably flip out and you can end the trick there. 2)If they have
not picked a number yet, (you will know if there is no reaction)
most people will not pick 35 because you said it.
4. Now the person is left with basically (actually three including
35) two options 37 or 39. For some reason most people I have done
this to pick 37.
5. When they tell you that they have their number stare into their
eyes for about 15 seconds. Remain silent during this time and
try to look like your actually reading their mind. Then say "thirty..(pause
for drama)..seven." It will probably be right. If not say
"Hold on, give me you hand" take their hand or put your
hand on their arm or something. Look back into their eyes, give
a few more seconds of silence and say "39".
Pen Through Anything (Tongue)
EFFECT:
Magician takes out a pen. The magician takes the pen
and jams it into a dollar bill. The pen is through the bill and
then the magician rips the pen off the bill and the bill is untouched.
PREPARATION:
You first have to go to a Radio Shack and ask for small
earth magnites. Then u cut the pen at the 3rd ring and hot glue
the small magnites in position inside the pen. Have them level
or it will not turn out good. This trick cost dollars in a store
and will cost u , so it's worth it
METHOD:
Take the bill and point at a spot on it. While the spectator
is looking the the spot u r pointing to you take the tip off and
place it where u are pointing. then take the rest of the pen and
pretent to jam it through the dollar. the two magnits will stick
together, so it looks as if it went through. Then hold the pen
and pull the dollar off the pen and it'll make a ripping sound
and the dollar is untorn.
Cig Thru Coin
EFFECT:
A cigarette is pushed right through the center of a borrowed quarter.
When the cigarette is
removed from the quarter the hole has disappeared.
Preparation:
This trick requires a special coin that is available from many
Magic Stores. The
special coin looks just like a normal quarter, but has a secret
compartment that opens up.
The front of the coin looks normal from a distance, when you take
a closer look there is a faint circle cut
in the center of the coin.
The back of the coin has a special flap that opens up when the
cigarette is pushed through the front of
the coin.
From the front it looks like there is a cigarette going thorough
the coin, but from the back the flap is
opening up.
Method:
Borrow a coin from a spectator, when you have the coin
in your hand you have to switch it with the
special coin. There is a many methods to switching the coin, one
of the switching methods David Blaine
uses that he takes the spectators coin in his left hand and then
shows the special coin in his right hand.
Most people will not recognise this quick action.
The Bitten Coin
EFFECT:
David Blaine borrows a coin from the spectator he then
puts the coin in his mouth and bites half
the coin off. He show the half bitten coin to the audience and
then blows on the coin and it magically
reappears.
Secret:
This is a very easy trick to do, but it does require a special
coin. The special coin has been
designed to fold in two places.
The front of the coin looks normal from distance, but if you look
closer you can would see two cuts in the
coin..
This picture shows you what the coin would look like without the
elastic band holding it together. The
coin is divided into three peices
If you fold one of the coin flaps over it would look as though
the coin has been "bitten" in half.
When you let go of one of the flaps the flap springs back to it's
original place so it looks like the coin has been restored.
Arm Twisting Illusion
EFFECT:
The performer invites a spectator to kneel down on the
ground with him and place their left hands palm down on the ground.
The performer then tells the spectator to bigin to twist his arm
clockwise, and the performer does the same. The spectator is only
able to twist about 90 degrees while the performer is able to
do a complete 360 and then some.
PREPARATION:
Wearing longsleeves or a jacket is the only thing needed for this
illusion.
MEATHOD:
Start by having a spectator stand to your right. The fewer the
spectators, the better this illusion will go over. Now have him
kneel down on his left knee, and you will do the same. Now instruct
him to place his left hand on the ground, palm down in front of
him, with his fingers pointing to the right. You will appear to
do the same but you will actually do something quite different.
Whenever you tell the spectator to place his hand on the ground,
nine times out of ten, they will look down at theyre hand while
they are putting it down. This is that important split second,
while they are not looking, that you must perform the move that
makes this illusion possible. So as you tell him what to do with
his hand, you will show him the position you want him to take
by saying something like: Put your hand down like this. Visually
show him what you want him to do. And as he looks down at his
hand to make sure he's doing it right, quickly twist your arm
counterclockwise until it has done a full 360, and place it on
the ground. If you do this while he is not looking, he will most
likely not detect what you have done. Now that your arm is already
twised counterclockwise, it will be simple to do a full clockwise
360. The spectator will only get about 90 degrees, because his
arm is still straight. After the spectator twists that far, you
will be able to keep goin around a full 360 and maybe more depending
on how flexible you are. The real key, that gives the trick a
dramatic effect, is that you make it seem as though it is very
painful as you twist your arm. Lots of owes and oohs, no I can
keep goin.. you get the picture. You obviously need long sleeves
for this illusion, where if someone could see your bare arm, the
trick would be worthless. For an added extra effect, if anyone
wants you to pull up your sleeve, You could have some fishing
line wrapped around your arm tightly. So when you pull up your
sleeve it gives the appearance that your skin has actually twisted.
If you wrap it around your arm, from your wrist to your elbow,
just two or three times in a spiral fashion, and you have it tight
enough, the line will not be vivsible, but will give a sometimes
nauseating effect.
How to make a nail writer
Effect:
The magician asks for a person to think in a number of 3 digits.
After the person thinks of a number, the magician writes in a
paper block the number that she thought. The number that she thought
is the same as it is written in the block. This trick has an excellent
effect.
Items Used:
A very strong glue, a tube of white glue, a penknife or probe,
a pencil, a scissors, ribbon adhesive of the color of the skin,
a paper block and a pin.
To Prepare:
1- Get the probe or penknife and cut the point of the
pencil.
2- Get a piece of paper and put under the point of the pencil.
To proceed get the very strong glue and paste the point of the
pencil with the piece of paper.
3- Cut out the paper in a circular format.
4- Get a piece of adhesive ribbon and make a hole with the needle.
5- Get the point of the pencil that is glued in the paper and
place in the adhesive ribbon through the hole made with the pin.
6- Now cut the ribbon adhesive of the same size of the paper that
is glued the point of the pencil.
7- Get a tube of white glue, and glue the point of the pencil
in the thumb. Now you are ready to do the trick.
Preparation:
1- Get a paper block and a pencil. Call a person and
ask him to think of any number of 3 digits. Always do that looking
at in the person's eyes, so that she doesn't look at the paper
block.
2- As soon as he thinks of a number, begin to look at fixedly
for the person's eyes (giving the impression that you are reading
his thought). Then, pretend to be writing with the pencil the
number that she thought. Then give the pencil to the person and
ask for him to say the number that he thought. After you gave
the pencil, put the thumb on the paper.
3- The position of the paper block should be the same as the illustration.
(By doing that he won't see the thumb, so you can write freely).
Let's say that the thought number is 957. When the person is saying
the number, you must at the same time write it in the block. Say
to him to repeat the thought number, giving more time for you
to write. Write the number, but don't look at the paper block,
you should always be looking at fixedly for the person's eyes,
or he can will notice that you are writing something.
Homemade Raven
EFFECT:
by simply waving your hands over a coin upon the spectator's
palm, the coin instantly disappears without a trace. you never
once touch the spectator's hand.
PREPARATION:
there will need to be a little investment if you don't
already need the supplies. purchase some medical elastic (the
type doctors use to bandage a sprained ankle), some clear fishing
line, black velvet, and a strong earth magnet (which can be found
at science stores for about 5.00) the overall payment shouldn't
be anymore than 15 dollars. the store bought raven is around 35.
take the earth magnet, and wrap in in the black velvet, and sew
the sides together. leave two small holes unsewn on opposite sides
of the velvet. cut a tin strip of the elastic, and paint it black
(you can use normal dyes, paints, or even permanent marker). make
it about 5 inches long. insert an end into an unsewn edge of the
velvet, and sew over the velvet to attach the elastic. on the
other end of the elastic, attach a strong safety pin. now you
have a magnet (completely covered in velvet with an elastic pull
attached to it). take about 8 inches of fishing line and make
a small loop out of it. put a little of this loop into the other
side of the velvet, and sew it to attach the line. you now have
an invisible loop of fishing line attached to a magnet (covered
in velvet), which is attached to a black elastic with a safety
pin. now go to your local arcade, and get a token. these tokens
are usually made out of steel or metal, which will stick to the
magnet if its waved over it. the velvet will stop the coin from
'clinking' against the magnet.
METHOD:
wear the gimmick, i recommend wearing all black. pin the end of
the elastic to your belt loop, and pull the magnet to the palm
of your hand. the elastic should be somewhat tense, but still
comfortable. the end of the fishing line should go around the
tip of your ring finger, and this permits you to spread the fingers
wide apart.
take the token, and place it upon the spectator's hand. he can
examine it all he wants; there won't be any suspision. after placing
it on to back of his hand, you simply wave the gimmick over the
token, and watch it vanish. the magnet will catch the coin, and
when you bend you ring finger, the gimmick will pull the coin
back to your belt loop faster than the eye could see. this permits
you to show both sides of your hands
FLOATING BILL AND SMALL OBJECTS LEVITATION
David Blaine demonstrated an object levitation on his
TV special where he asks a spectator to watch while he picks up
a leaf and causes it to levitate above his hand.
This appeared to be totally impromptu which made it even more
impressive.
This type of levitation is performed by using "invisible
thread" which can either be purchased as a proprietary brand
from good magic suppliers or by separating some fine polyester
thread into individual strands and using a single strand.
One end of this strand should be attached to some sticky tape
and placed in the mouth between the gum and cheek or a high shirt
button while the other end can be placed at the right moment to
a solid object ( In David Blaines case , the tree.) The magician
then stands at the correct distance so that the string is tight
and the object ( a bill or a leaf) wrapped around the thread which
is above the magicians hand)
This should look like the magician is just scrunching up the note
in the palm of their hand.
By using very small movements of the head or body , the magician
can then tighten the thread causing the note to rise and is also
able to move his hands around the object to show that it really
is levitating.
The object can then be made to return to the palm and be examined
by the spectator.
The magician can then casually walk away , the thread breaking
which is not a problem cause it's cheap.
INVISIBLE DECK
Effect:
A magician asks a person to think of a card. He then acts like
he has an invisible deck of cards. The spectator removes his card
and turns it over. The Magician then pulls out a deck of REAL
cards. He asks what the card was. The magician then opens the
deck and fans the cards. only one card is upside down. the chosen
card.
Props needed:
A deck of cards with rough backs.
Secret:
Every card in the deck has another card on the back of it, face
down. Since the cards have rough backs they stick to each other.
The cards are setup like this: the sum of the cards, front and
back, is 13. So, a 5 is on the back of an 8, 6 on back of 9, etc.
Jacks and aces are odd. Queens are even, acks are 11,
queens are 12, kings are on back of kings, red kings are odd,
black are even. Aces are on the back of queens. spades are on
the backs of hearts, clubs on backs of diamonds. One side of the
deck is all even numbers, the other is odd. This setup is complecated.
Once you hear the card the spectator chose, take out
the deck. REMEMBER, one side is odd, the other is even. IF the
spectators card was odd, take out the deck, even side up. Lets
>say the spectators card was the 9 of spades. take out the
deck on the even side, flip through the cards (apply pressure
to the cards, or else the may seperate and find the 4 of hearts.
seperate the card on back of the 4 of hearts and flip[ through
the rest of the deck showing all other cards face up. Have the
spectator remove the card.
Torn 'n' Transformed
EFFECT:
A card is selected and lost in the pack. The magician then claims
he will cause the card to rise to the top of the deck, but he
fails. When he turns over the top card, it is NOT the selection,
as he said it would be. The magician gets mad, tearing up the
top card into four peices and placing them into a spectator's
hand.
The magician then looks through the pack for the spectator's card,
finding it somewhere in the middle. Flustered, the magician then
tries to redeem himself. He holds the selected card in his hands
where it CHANGES VISIBLY into the card that was torn just a moment
ago!
But wait...if that card is whole and in the magicians hand...what
card is the spectator holding? The spectator open's his hand to
reveal THEIR SELECTED CARD, torn into four peices! The spectator
is then asked to close their hand again over the four peices,
where they RESTORE into a whole card once again!
PREPARATION:
Like all good effects, there is almost no preparation. All you
need is one duplicate card, for the sake of this explanation,
the three of clubs. This card is placed on top of the deck, and
the other three of clubs is placed on the bottom. You are now
ready to perform.
METHOD:
First, you must force the bottom card of the deck in your favorite
manner. I use the slide force, which I will explain at the end
for those who are unfamiliar with it.
Turn the forced three of clubs face up, remarking that you love
this trick because you have the privilage of knowing what the
spectator's card is! Now fan the deck and have the spectator place
in their three of clubs anywhere in the deck.
Now close the fan, and claim you will cause the selected card
to jump to the top of the deck. (Of course, in this position,
you COULD do that...but you're not going to.) Actually, you are
going to do a double lift from the top, showing not the selected
card, but an indifferent card. Let's say it's the queen of hearts.
You apologise, look sad, and then finally turn the double lift
face down, deal off the ACTUAL top card, (Which will be the three
of clubs) and tear THAT card up. You place these peices face down
in the spectator's hand, close their hand for them, and turn their
hand over.
Now you go through the process of finding the remaining three
of clubs. During this part of the trick you are doing exactly
what you claim to be. Simply fan the cards facing you and look
for the three of clubs.
When you find it, place it face up on top of the deck (On top
of the queen of hearts which THEY THINK is in their hands.) You
will now do a back-to-back double lift, and execute a FLIP CHANGE.
(I will explain at the end.) This changes the card visibly into
the queen of hearts.
Let that sink in. This is a very odd moment for the spectator.
NOW have them open their hand, to reveal the torn three of clubs.
As they react, take advantage of that off-beat to turn the deck
face-up in your hands and execute a Z-Fold. (I will explain this
at the end.)
Hold this folded card underneath the deck with the same hand that
is holding the pack, and take the four ripped peices from the
spectator, remarking,
"This wouldn't be a very good ending to a magic trick, would
it?" The moment you take the pieces, pass them under the
deck, switching them for the folded duplicate. Bring this right
back out, concealing the folded edge.
Place this card back in the spectator's hand, and back away. Continue
to patter now, recounting everything that has happened up to this
point. THis time misdirection will allow you to ask, "Did
I touch that card you are now holding." 99.9% of the time,
the spectator will now reply, "NO."
Have them open their hand, reveal the restored card.
NOTES:
FLIP CHANGE- I suppose it would be just as easy to do
a Marlo-style Snap Change, but I will explain the version I use
anyway. You hold the back to back double in your right hand, with
thr deck in your left. Your thumb goes at the bottom left corner
of the card, while your middle finger holds the upper right corner.
You then apply pressure, bowing the card inwards. As the pressure
builds, you will release the middle finger's grip, causing the
card to flip around rapidly. Immediately place the double back
on the pack, deal the face up card onto the table (or into your
hand) to show that it is a normal card.
SLIDE FORCE-
Hold the deck in your left hand, and begin spreading through the
cards with your right hand from the top of the deck down, offering
the spectator to "stop you anywhere." Unbeknownst to
them, you are using your right hand fingers to, under the deck
, slide the bottom card along so it is flush with the point in
the deck you are at in your spread.
This way, when they call out "STOP!" You can apparently
just cut where they said stop, but actually, as the two hands
separate, you will slide the bottom card out from the bottom with
the right fingers onto the bottom of the right hand packet. This
is a very effective force.
Z-FOLD -This is a method of folding a card under the deck into
fourths without a spectator knowing. Turn the deck face up in
your left hand, and put your right hand on top of the deck in
biddle position. The left hand fingers now slip away to the front
edge of the cards.
Bracing the bottom edge of the bottom card with your right thumb,
the left fingers bow the card and bend it in half towards the
back. AS SOON AS THE CARD is in half, the left hand does not change
position, it simply closes to fold the card in half again. The
card should now be in fourths at the bottom left edge of the pack. |
