Dee Ann Paulsrud has coordinated the “Beef 'N Up the
Troops” program for the past three years, helping send over
91,000 beef sticks to troops overseas.
Each box contains 300 beef sticks. Dee Ann says 3,000 is a minimum
order.
“If I order 3,000, I get them at 69 cents per stick,”
she says. “We’ve been able to get them at that price
for a long time.”
Paulsrud says a friend picks up the sticks and hauls them to
the 185th Air Refueling Wing base in Sioux City. They then are
loaded into the belly of the planes and shipped overseas, where
they are sent to the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Paulsrud says donations are used to purchase the beef and process
it. The beef sticks have a shelf life of 14 months, but she adds
when they reach the troops, they are gone pretty quickly.
