UPDATE:
Giggle-BLIZZARD was MISSING since November 15th.
A neighbor girl saw him get hit by a car on November 21st. but did not
tell me until November 25th. (she just didn't want me to be sad )
Even still, we never stopped looking!
Every day - my yellow lab would go riding or walking with me as I put up posters and called his name.
11 Days after he went missing,
6 days after seen hit by a car 1.2 miles away,
On Thanksgiving night -
There was a meow on our front porch.
When we opened the door -
Blizzard came hobbling in!
Although he has 2 broken legs - he is going to be just fine!
I am writing this because I want to tell anyone who has lost a cat or dog -DO NOT GIVE UP!
Be persistent - because if you're out looking and yelling his name -
they may just happen to hear your voice - our smell your smell!
That may be enough to give them the extra will or strength to make it home!
(The day before he came home - we were in the neighborhood he most
likely travelled through - so he probably smelled or heard us!)
What could I have done different?
I should noy have left him outside unattended.
I should've had a safety ID collar on Blizzard.
I should've expanded my search out in a circle right from the start/
What did I do right?
I persisted in looking every day and even had my nieces and nephews and friends helping.
I IMMEDIATELY put up LOST posters!
Please, DO NOT "wait a couple days" in hopes they'll come back, especially for pets who've never been lost before!
Don't wait even 1/2 a day! Get them out immediately!
DEFINITELY add a photo to your poster - people will take notice of a photo before reading any words!
Put posters at every main corner in your neighborhood AND BEYOND!
Since he came home on his own, Did all my searching and walking really do any good in the end? DEFINITELY.
One call from a family is all it took to redirect my search and lead me closer to Blizzard.
He may have been lost at first, but with us walking through all the
neighborhoods and giving people flyers, our scent markers were
everywhere.
The five calls that I did get provided the information I needed to piece together the timeline of his unfortunate journey.
I appreciated that more than those people could ever imagine. It helps to know what he went through!
He was gone 11 days, but I have heard similar stories of animals returning home months later1 SO DO NOT GIVE UP!
ALL I can say is that animals are amzaing -more so than humans in the
way of their tolerance of pain, mistreatment, whatever. And if they
know they are loved, and your family isn't going to give up easy on the
search, then it may be just enough to bring them home to you.
I would like to think that Blizzard’s story has even a higher purpose.
If these words inspire just ONE family to be persistent in their
search, and it leads to them being reunited with their beloved pet,
then it was worth taking the time to post this!
Goodluck if you've lost your pet. And don't give up!
Thanks to everyone who has cared enough to read a lost pet posting. You
just never know, one small detail may lead to a pet returning home
safely!
